South Africa Journal: The People to People Delegation, October 2006
Mary and I just took a major vacation. The centerpiece of this trip was the People to People Employment Law delegation to South Africa. We spent a weekend in New York before departing for Johanesburg on October 9. We returned on October 19, and the next day went to Tucson for Family Weekend at University of Arizona, where we visited with our daughter and attended what was for me a first and only college football game. The delegation included a bunch of professional meetings. I was in the guest program and got to do a lot more touring. Unfortunately the lawyer's delegation wound up not having ANY time in Soweto and had to attend a cocktail party instead. While the food and wine in South Africa are excellent, it's the sense of a society in transition that really drew us.
